Microsoft earn $1.2billion from Xbox Live alone!

Today the chief operating officer for Xbox (Dennis Durkin) has stated that the companies  annual earnings from their online gaming service Xbox Live is around 1.2 billion dollars.

The company are expecting to earn roughly $600 million this year from their Xbox Live gold subscription service, while the rest is made up from extra features including things like game add-ons, avatar clothing and Zune movie rentals. Due to the actual Xbox 360 taking several years to make profit from its sales, it likely that XBL provides Microsoft with much more money than console sales itself! It’s no wonder Sony have just released their own subscription based service; PlayStation Plus.

Microsoft is due to report its 2010 fiscal results later this month.
