Fight Night: Champion Announced

Time to slip your boxing gloves on again….

We first saw next gen console boxing five years ago at E3 during a breathing demo for EA’s Fight Night Round 3, now EA are looking to amaze the boxing fans out there yet again with its newly announced Fight Night Champion, which is expected to be released sometime in 2011.

Talking to IGN, EA Canada states, “Fight Night Champion will break the mold of what is expected in a single-player sports game. Players will be introduced to an entirely new way to step between the ropes and experience the drama, emotion, excitement and tragedy of world championship boxing”. The producer for the game, Brian Hayes teased us all by saying “Its something people wont expect from an EA sports game”. So expect some surprises when it hits the shelves next year.

Given away by the title the main part of the game is its campaign which has you rise through the ranks as nobody to a boxing legend. There are 60 to 65 real world boxes planned to feature in the game, with EA also announcing a completely overhauled control system, known as the ‘Full Spectrum punch control’. The new control scheme is said to be “the most realistic punching system ever seen” while also being “the most user-friendly title in the franchise’s history.” By looking at the two new screenshots below, it seems like the new control system packs one hell of a punch.

Manny seems to enjoy the new control system...

...Ohh, no he doesn't.
